Plan a trip

Bergen's centre is small, so a day covers a lot. These are starting points, not schedules — pick what suits you and leave the rest.

🛬 Landed mid-afternoon?

Walk Bryggen's alleys before dinner — they're at their best when the day-trippers thin out. If the sky is clear, ride Fløibanen up for the evening view and eat when you come down. Clear skies outrank any plan in this town.

If you only have one day

This order walks one line instead of criss-crossing: the museum first so the wharf makes sense, the wharf and its alleys, something from the sea at the market, then up the funicular when the sky looks clearest.

Day two

The fortress fills the morning next to Bryggen. KODE covers a wet afternoon. Troldhaugen and Fantoft sit on the same light-rail line south, so do them as one half-day pair.

Raining? It will, sometimes

The strongest indoor options, in rough order of payoff. Keep these in reserve and spend the dry windows on the mountains instead.

If it's summer and clear

The open-air museum only runs in season, and the two climbs are dry-weather activities. Any of these beats an indoor afternoon on a good day.

🕐 How long to stay

One full day covers the centre and a mountain. Two is comfortable. The reason to stay longer is a fjord day trip — boats leave from the harbour, and the good ones sell out in July, so book a day or two ahead.
