Fantoft Stave Church

A dragon-headed stave church standing dark among tall trees. The original was built in the 1150s, burned down in an arson in 1992, and was rebuilt plank by plank over the following years. Purists point out that you're looking at a reconstruction. In the flesh that matters less than you'd expect, because the place has real atmosphere, especially in low light. It's a short uphill walk from the light rail, and Troldhaugen is on the same line. Outside the summer season the interior is closed and you're there for the outside. That still repays the trip.
