Ålesund burned to the ground in January 1904 and was rebuilt in three years, all of it in the art nouveau style of the moment. This pair of museums tells that story from inside a former pharmacy that kept its original interiors. Next door, KUBE shows art and design in the old bank. Seeing the fire story first turns every walk through the centre afterwards into a treasure hunt for dragons, turrets and swirling ironwork. The two houses sit wall to wall; tickets are commonly sold together, but check before counting on it.
