The narrow sound through the middle of town is where Ålesund performs: fishing boats against art nouveau facades, the fish market side, and gulls supervising everything. Walk both quaysides, cross the bridges, and carry on out to the Molja lighthouse at the mouth. Do it once in daylight for the architecture and once in the evening for the light on the water. It costs nothing and it is the town.
