About

A red wharf warehouse by the old harbour holds the museum that explains Tromsø. Seal hunters, overwinterers, trappers who spent years alone on Svalbard (the women among them get their due), and the expeditions of Nansen and Amundsen, which used this town as the last stop before the ice. It's an old-fashioned museum in the best sense, dense and specific, and slightly gruesome where the subject demands it. Walk the surrounding Skansen quarter afterwards. It's the oldest corner of town.
