The island west of Tromsø is where the postcards of white-sand Arctic beaches come from. Drive out through fjord-and-peak scenery to Sommarøy, a fishing village on water so turquoise it looks borrowed from somewhere warmer, and loop back at your own pace. Under the midnight sun it's the best-value day in the region; in winter it's aurora territory away from town lights. The pin marks Sommarøy; the drive is the sight.
🕒 How long
A half-day minimum; a full day does it justice
👤 Suits
Anyone with a rental car and a free day; photographers double the value
🗓️ Season
Great in both seasons for different reasons; winter driving needs winter confidence.
