Terraces of rock and improbable colour on the university campus north of the centre. The collection is what survives at 69° north: Himalayan blue poppies, Arctic natives, alpine cushion plants from the world's cold edges. Peak bloom runs from the explosion in late May through August, and under the midnight sun the place is lovely and oddly quiet. It's strictly a summer visit. Under snow there is nothing to see, hence the check-first tag.
