A bus from Åndalsnes station drops you in Venjesdalen in the morning, and from there the route runs along the ridge all the way back to town, with the Romsdal valley a kilometre below and the Trolltindene wall straight across. Parts of the ridge are narrow and airy. That's the appeal for the people who love it, and the reason to pick the marked family variant if heights aren't your thing. The finish is glorious: down the Sherpa steps over Nesaksla with Åndalsnes and the fjord straight ahead, and an ice cream at the bottom. If your legs are done at the top, the Romsdalsgondolen cable car runs between the Nesaksla summit and the town, so you can ride down instead of taking the steps. Book the trailhead bus at nor-way.no.
