Flåm is the hinge of Norway's most packaged — and still genuinely great — day: the Flåmsbana railway drops from the mountain plateau to sea level in under an hour of engineered drama, and boats continue up the narrow Nærøyfjord, the UNESCO-listed one. Sold bundled as 'Norway in a Nutshell', doable independently with the same tickets. The village itself is a transit point with cruise crowds; the train and the fjord are what you came for. Stay a night in Flåm or Aurland and you get the fjord back to yourself at dusk.
